Homeowners

Important information for Homeowners of the MicroFIT Program

Selling Your House?

If you plan to sell your home, please contact us as soon as possible.

Please let us know if you plan to sell your home. We need to send you numerous documents to forward to any potential buyers. It is important that buyers are aware of the contract responsibilities they will take on if they purchase your home. Due to the notice of lease, anyone that buys a home with solar panels of the MicroFIT program will automatically take on the lease agreement with RSS Solar.

Need Repairs?

Do you require roof repairs on your home?

Please send an email to us describing the nature of your request. We will coordinate with the pre-approved contracting company to remove the system. Once work is complete on your home, please inform us right away at which time we will coordinate the re-installation of the system.

Lease Agreements

All contracts between Solar Pure Energies as the third party are valid and binding between RSS Solar LP and MicroFIT homeowners.

RSS Solar acquired the solar portfolio from Pure Energies and did not update the entity name(s) on the existing lease agreements – therefore the leases say Pure Energies; enforceable by RSS Solar.

RSS Solar acquired Pure Energies in 2015. All existing leases between homeowners of the MicroFIT program and Pure Energies are legally binding between RSS Solar and the contract holder.

Frequently Asked Questions

A:Yes, please send all inquiries through the “contact us” form at the bottom of this page. It is mandatory that you include the address of the home and MicroFIT number in the required field. We will get back to you and walk you through the MicroFIT contract transfer process.

A: In 2015, RSS Solar acquired the MicroFIT program solar portfolio RSS Solar is the only third party that manages the homes in MicroFIT portfolio.

A: Submit maintenance requests directly to RSS Solar. In the past, Newtons coordinated all of maintenance requests, but they have asked that all requests be sent to RSS Solar directly;

A: No, to avoid liability issues we only use one contracting company to service all the solar systems in MicroFIT program. Please send us a maintenance request directly and we will schedule our contracting company to remove the system for you. Homeowners are required to source and schedule their own roof repairs. Once your repairs are complete, please notify us, and we will schedule to have your solar system re-installed.

A: Ideally 6 weeks, each season is different and the wait time for your system to be removed and reinstalled will vary depending on the contractor’s schedule. Give us as much notice as possible as soon as you require roof repairs on your home.

A: This answer will vary depending on the situation. If you don’t receive your yearly lease payment on time, send us a note, and we will help figure out why it might have been held. Our system automatically flags issues then holds payments; this ensures homeowners will reach out to us.

A: We no longer install new solar systems; we apologize for any inconvenience.

A: Yes. You will need to get the new buyers to sign a Schedule 1 Agreement to transfer ownership to them prior to the closing date of the sale. Please send your address in an email and we will organize a package to send to the buyer(s).

A: Due to the notice of lease on the title, anyone that purchases a house included in the MicroFIT program has contractual obligations that are embedded in the purchase agreement. It is not possible to remove the notice of lease. Review the lease agreement between the homeowner and RSS Solar for more information. If you need help understanding your contractual responsibilities, please reach out to us directly for assistance.

A: Unfortunately, this is not possible. Whoever purchases your home will assume the solar contract responsibilities. Schedule 1 Agreement is embedded in the purchasing agreement that new buyers are required to review prior to signing. We are happy to walk homeowners through their obligations to prevent any issues when transferring over the contract to buyers

A: You are helping to reduce carbon emissions, promoting renewable energy, and earning money through your lease agreement. The yearly payment is a bonus and varies depending on the size of the system and the year of installation. Think of this as a long-term investment; you will have a solar system to power your home’s electricity and can sell the generated energy back to your hydro company. If you do not feel it is worth it, you can also buy out your contract prior to the end of your term and receive the generation payments at the MicroFIT rate.

A: We no longer install new systems, sorry for any inconvenience.
